Misty Gustafson, Chandler’s homeless programs supervisor, was honored Feb. 28 after being named the 2023 Beth McDonald Woman of the Year.

Gustafson and other nominees were honored at a banquet hosted by iHeartMedia’s 99.9 KEZ and Shea Homes.

As the Woman of the Year, Gustafson received $7,500 from Shea Homes.

Gustafson has been with the city for four years and manages Chandler’s homeless outreach and non-congregate shelter programs, according to a release.

“She has overcome homelessness and addiction successfully breaking the cycle of generational addiction and poverty — making a better life for herself, her husband and adopted daughter,” the release stated.

“The challenges I’ve overcome are the same challenges faced by the people I’m trying to help in Chandler,” Gustafson said.

“Now six years clean and sober, I can relate to those I’m trying to help — I’ve been to prison and have experienced homelessness. My team and I help our clients get off the streets and connect to services to help make their lives better.”

Gustafson was nominated by her husband.
