Chandler creates new historic preservation district

By unanimously approving the consent agenda at its April 4 regular meeting, the Chandler City Council gave final approval to something that had been in the works for several years.

An ordinance on that consent agenda was adopted to create the Silk Stocking Historic Preservation District. This allows, according to a staff report, 23 of the 39 homes in the neighborhood to be subject to the regulatory imposition of the historic preservation ordinance and its design guidelines.

The name “Silk Stocking” was coined in 1919, according to a U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service document for the National Register of Historic Places.
