Chandler Council OKs modified drainage xeriscape plan

This map shows seven drainage grassy city of Chandler rights-of-way where staff plan to convert lawn areas to xeriscaping. Council member O.D. Harris asked staff to rework the shape of lawn to be altered at “Site 418-B” at Chandler Boulevard and Country Club Drive, near the Fashion Center mall. Harris and the rest of Council unanimously voted to approve the work phase of the grant-funded plan.

When Chandler staff brought a project phase to reduce one type of city-maintained lawn space to the City Council in late June, there was a long discussion.

And a few days later, there was even more public discussion.

The discussions were about a city plan to conserve water and reduce landscaping resources use by eliminating some grass at some drainage areas rights-of-way around town.
