Chandler Council makes animal ordinance law

Even though there wasn’t a lengthy discussion about a new animal abuse ordinance, the Chandler City Council took a historic action at its regular meeting.

Council gave final approval to an ordinance that includes major changes regarding animal abuse. While the majority of the changes were to add new language and provisions, the ordinance’s main reach will be to give law enforcement and animal control new abilities and criteria to determine what is abuse.

Chandler’s ordinances take effect 30 days after approval, which, in this case, is Jan. 4, 2024.
