Chandler Council advances teen safety ordinances

After final approval, new laws would take effect June 24

Several public speakers and Chandler City Council members made a point at the May 9 regular meeting of saying passing two ordinances won’t solve all teen violence problems in the East Valley. Each measure is a small piece of a larger solution, they said.

Speakers did have praise for the council, which gave initial approval to two ordinances on the agenda meant to improve teen safety.

After meeting and working on both a large-gathering host penalty ordinance and one regarding minors and brass knuckles for months, council unanimously gave tentative approval to both ordinances May 9 by a 6-0 vote. Council member Mark Stewart was traveling and couldn’t vote.
