After Chandler Unified’s Governing Board took in a thorough presentation Jan. 14 on a detailed staff reduction plan to cut about $12 million from next year’s budget, it seemed the board had a path, albeit a hotly contested one, to get to its goal.
But even after that seven-hour meeting, plus two more lengthy special meetings devoted solely to potential staffing cuts, the board was still sharply divided on the best approach.
The CUSD board voted, 3-2, at a special Jan. 29 meeting to approve a much-debated complex list of staff cuts for the 2026-27 school year. Board Vice President Barb Mozdzen proposed the final package and voted in favor of it, as did board members Kurt Rohrs and Ryan Heap.
