Jewish War Veterans Copper State Post 619 welcomes Jeremy Isom, outreach specialist for a Veterans Health Administration office in Mesa, will speak at its meeting in the Oakwood Country Club Ballroom A, Sun Lakes, on Sunday, Sept. 28. 9:30 a.m.
Located in Mesa, Isom’s department is community-based and separated from the main hospital and outpatient clinics, according to a news release.
Isom stresses that “veterans who qualify for our services do not have to be registered with VA to be seen. We provide mental health services, but we are more focused on readjustment issues after service and provide a unique treatment plan based on the Veteran’s needs,” the release states.

Veterans’ centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional counseling to eligible Veterans, service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families, it states.
Counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military, including military sexual trauma, or MST. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services.
Vet center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief, and transition after trauma, the release states.
“Veterans that qualify for our services voluntarily may enroll by providing a copy of DD-214 and filling out an intake packet on first appointment,” Isom said in the release.
The Mesa center provides services to the surrounding area, but Vet Centers have more than 300 physical locations as well as more than 80 mobile vet centers nationwide including U.S territories.
JWV Post 619, which meets the third Sunday of every month from September to June, boasts members who represent a wide range of religious affiliations and participate in philanthropic activities to help veterans of all faiths.
