Chandler approves $9.4M construction contract for school rebuild

Board votes 4-1 amid Rohrs' questions on cost, planning

One Chandler Unified School District Governing Board member voted against a major construction contract for Galveston Elementary School’s rebuild at Wednesday’s meeting, citing concerns with cost and long-term planning.

A lengthy discussion between governing board members took place in a study session meeting, prior to a vote on the construction contract.

In asking questions during the board’s study session discussion on demographics, board member Kurt Rohrs questioned the wisdom of spending nearly $30 million in total to rebuild Galveston Elementary School.
