Andrés Chávez, the grandson of César Chávez and executive director of the National Chávez Center, was at Frye Elementary School in Chandler this week to as part of several days of events in the East Valley devoted to celebrating his late grandfather, who would have turned 97 on Sunday.
Andrés Chávez talked with the young students about César Chávez about his grandfather’s life, how he got into labor movements and his various roles as a labor leader and what César’s legacy means to him.
He pointed out there could be big celebrations in store for his grandfather’s 100th birthday in March 2027.
