Kate Borders, president and CEO of the Downtown Tempe Authority, will leave the organization in May to become president of University Circle Inc. in Cleveland.
Downtown Tempe Authority is the private, nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the city to provide “enhanced management, safety, marketing and promotional services on behalf of DTA members and other downtown stakeholders,” according to a release.
Borders has led DTA for nine years.
“Kate Borders has been instrumental in creating positive change throughout downtown Tempe, bringing new traditions, inclusive events and colorful art to our community. We wish her great success in her new endeavors," said Tempe City Manager Andrew Ching.
Under her leadership, the organization created events, several celebrating Tempe's diverse community, such as PRIDE Month flags and rainbow rose giveaways throughout the downtown, Juneteenth and Menorah lighting events, city officials said.
“With her direction, DTA has increased street market opportunities and added substantial public art throughout the downtown area,” the release stated.
Lori Foster, chief strategy officer for Downtown Tempe Authority, will be interim CEO and president beginning in June.
