Century old building in Peoria gets wrecking ball

Blighted Edwards Hotel a ‘safety issue’

A more than 100-year-old building in Old Town Peoria has been demolished.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Stein said the former Edwards Hotel, 8325 W. Washington St., has been listed as a blighted property and the code office has been working with the owner to address a number of issues with the building.

Ms. Stein said it was a community safety issue and has been deemed unsafe, with continued deterioration, blight and structural stability failure issues. She said the property, owned by Goldfield Skies LLC, who decided to remove the building, has been under a demolition order on and off since 2016.
