Centennial football pulls away late in Peoria

Coyotes get first Open win over Desert Mountain

In the first round of the Open Division Playoffs, No. 3 Peoria Centennial took a 17-3 lead with less than a minute left in the third quarter on a 40-yard punt return touchdown and controlled the fourth quarter on route to a 24-3 victory over No. 6 Desert Mountain.

Centennial’s run game and defense paved the way to their first Open Division playoff win in five years. Sophomore Owen Reynoso punched in a one-yard touchdown for the Coyotes after a 38-yard drive in the first quarter, and senior Marcus Logan caught an interception in the final seconds of the first half to keep it 10-3.

Desert Mountain quarterback senior Brady McDonough did enough with his legs to sustain drives, but the Wolves were held scoreless in the second half.
