TEMPE - Who were these guys on the pitching and defense-based Centennial baseball team, crowding the plate and swinging away from the start against the most dominant pitcher in the 5A Conference?
They were state champions by the end of Tuesday night.
Jumping to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Canyon View senior ace Landon Hood did not win the 5A title game at Tempe Diablo Stadium May 20, but it certainly set the tone. #3 Centennial (24-9) added insurance runs in the third, fourth and seven innings and kept top seed Canyon View (30-5) to win the school’s first baseball title.
