CDC updates COVID-19 recommendations in 8 Arizona counties, including Maricopa

State: 'COVID-19 cases have risen week-to-week since early April'

Community levels of COVID-19 reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now carry a recommendation of mask use in public indoor settings in Navajo and Apache counties, and the CDC advises Maricopa County residents who are at high risk for severe disease discuss with health providers about precautions.

Joining Maricopa County in the latter category are Pima, Coconino, Cochise, Gila and Mohave counties, the Arizona Department of Health Services stated Friday in a release.

“Our guidance follows the CDC’s,” the department stated. “COVID-19 cases have risen week-to-week since early April, though they remain far below levels seen during the winter surge fueled by the Omicron variant.
