The folks at Cosanti in Paradise Valley have put together a unique hands-on opportunity that melds artistic expression informed by the desert with an exploration of Cosanti’s innovative and experimental historic site.
Instructor Dakota Petersen will guide workshop participants through the process of carving and shaping a mold made from desert earth to create their own cast plaster tile using the same techniques that shaped the construction of Cosanti itself, according to a press release. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 15 and begins with an orientation and guided tour of Cosanti. After that, participants will take part in silt designing, pigmenting and casting exercises. Participants can bring a boxed lunch for a break at 12:30, then the session ends with an excavation workshop and photos.
The workshop is $125 per person, the brief continues, and is limited to 15 participants. To learn more about the Casting Cosanti Workshop, visit cosanti.com/pages/hands-on-experiences.
