It didn’t matter if the game was well in hand or if future pitching strategy would be a consideration in this single elimination tourney, there was no way Casteel senior lefty Isaac Rehfield was coming out of this one.
The Colts’ starting man spun a complete-game shutout Tuesday afternoon in Goodyear to lead eighth-seeded Casteel to a stunning 9-0 upset of the 5A state tournament’s top-seeded Millennium Tigers, on their home turf no less, to advance to the bracket’s Final Four.
With the game all but decided, and with a semifinal matchup within reach for the Colts on Friday, May 14, against fifth-seeded Peoria Sunrise Mountain at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, even in the waning innings Casteel stuck with their man.
