Mark and Marcus Carter, brothers and co-head coaches of the Desert Edge football team since 2020, announced their reignation - effective immediately - Tuesday afternoon on Twitter. Mark Carter also resigned as the Scorpions' boys track head coach.
The brothers came to that decision in the wake of the Arizona Interscholastic Association's executive board's 9-0 vote Monday to place the Scorpions' football and boys track and field teams on probation for the 2024-25 school year for a recruiting violation.
This stems from a Facebook response Mark Carter made to a parent looking to relocate his child, who has not played high school football, after he moves out of the Cactus High School attendance zone this spring. Carter mentioned Desert Edge, and extolled the schools academic and athletic benefits after 18 Scorpions in the Class of 2024 signed to play college football.
