Carports approved for Western Sun Apartments in Mesa

Carports can be installed within an existing nonconforming yard in an apartment complex, the Mesa Board of Adjustment decided recently.

A special-use permit to allow carports at Western Sun Apartments, 615 S. Williams, was approved by the board in a consent agenda with other items May 5.

Alterations and enlargements that extend into a nonconforming yard are allowed with the approval of a special-use permit, Mesa Planner Wahid Alam said during a study session prior to the meeting.
