Carefree resident’s astronomical discovery officially recognized

After nearly 50 years, Carefree resident Paul Maley’s discovery was officially recognized May 6 by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams.

It was a culmination of dedication, hard work and persistence spanning nearly half a century.

On March 7, Maley recorded a double eclipse of a star caused by a natural satellite orbiting an asteroid, something he had been trying to capture for 49 years. Two months later, the discovery was officially recognized.
