The driver and passager of a Hyundai Elantra died Wednesday morning when the car they were in collided with an SUV at Country Club Drive and Main Street in Mesa, police said.
Those inside the Ford Edge suffered minor injuries.
Police said the crash occurred when the Elantra, which was heading east on Main Street, crashed into the SUV that was going south on Country Club. The Elantra crashed into a pole after the initial collision, authorities said.

The driver and passager of a Hyundai Elantra died Wednesday morning when the car they were in collided with an SUV at Country Club Drive and Main Street in Mesa, police said.

Police said the crash occurred when the Elantra, which was heading east on Main Street, crashed into the SUV that was going south on Country Club. The Elantra crashed into a pole after the initial collision, authorities said.
Impairment is a possible factor, and the Elantra was stolen, police said.
The investigation is continuing, and the Mesa Police Department’s accident reconstruction detectives were at the scene following the crash, according to a release.
The intersection has reopened, and light rail is on its normal schedule, officials said.
