Campaign advertising: Does spending big win Scottsdale elections?

The final campaign finance reports for Scottsdale’s November 2020 general election are in, showcasing the monetary investment each candidate made to win.

The reports cover Oct. 18 to Dec. 31 — the tail end of the campaign season before the Nov. 3, 2020, election. They provide the total amount each candidate collected and spent throughout the election cycle.

In the general election, there was a field of eight candidates for the local government. Scottsdale voted in a new mayor, David Ortega, as well as three new City Council members.
