Camp Colley expands in second year back after closures

Northern Arizona camp serves low-income, neurodiverse kids from Phoenix

After being shut down for years because of the COVID-19 pandemic and 2021 northern Arizona wildfires, the opportunity for Phoenix children with and without neurodiversities to attend summer camp at a discount is back for its second summer and expanding.

Camp Colley, located the community of Happy Jack in Coconino County, returned for the first time in 2024 after being closed for four summers. The camp saw 265 children participate last summer, but camp organizers said they believe it will be more this year.

The 35-acre, city-owned camp, about a 2.5-hour drive north from Phoenix, has welcomed Phoenix children since 2002, aiming to provide underserved youth with things such as STEM activities and horse therapy to build confidence and social and life skills.
