Cactus League plans to start early on Feb. 19, unless an MLB lockout delays season

MLB teams are looking to start the 2027 season a few days earlier as fans fear the possibility of a season started days, weeks or months late — if it happens at all.

Cactus League and Grapefruit League play is scheduled to begin on Friday, Feb. 19, which is the earliest a spring training game has been played at least in the 21st century. MLB also plans to have all 30 teams starting play on the same day, which is also atypical. Normally, a handful of teams start play first with a full slate the following day.

Spring training pitcher and catcher workouts will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 9, with teams each scheduling their own start dates.
