The city of Buckeye won two Golden Prospector Awards from the Arizona Association for Economic Development at this year’s Fall Forum.

Buckeye’s Reduce the Commute Job Fair took top honors for the Economic Development Program category. This initiative addresses pressing workforce development challenges facing the region by connecting businesses with qualified workers.

The first job fair resulted in more than 100 people employed, preventing hundreds of hours commuting outside of Buckeye for residents looking to work closer to home. The first job fair was so successful, the city just finished up its third installment that featured more than 50 employers, 800 job seekers and resulted in over 150 on-the-spot job offers.

Buckeye also won the Golden Prospector in the category of Multimedia Promotion for its work on the Buckeye Water Management campaign. This campaign was dedicated to informing the public about Buckeye’s secure water supply and efforts to continue being a good water steward.

The Golden Prospector Awards were established more than 20 years ago to encourage and recognize excellence in economic development.
