Crystal Wilson, who was arrested in December, has been brought back to Arizona from Georgia and was booked overnight in the Maricopa County Jail where she faces charges in the death of her adopted son, Buckeye police said.
Jesse Wilson died six years ago.
According to a release made by Buckeye Police, on July 18, 2016, Wilson told police Jesse had run away from their home after she had put him to bed.
Initially the case was treated as a missing person because Crystal Wilson told police Jesse had “learning and developmental issues.”
Buckeye police searched for Jesse Wilson with help from volunteers, law enforcement agencies and the FBI.
In 2018, Jesse’s skeletal remains were found on the side of the road near Broadway and Oglesby, approximately 6 miles from the home. Forensics officials were unable to determine the cause and manner of death.
In November 2020, the Buckeye Police Department assigned a new investigator to the case to find leads. The department submitted a case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review of criminal charges.
On Dec. 9, a Maricopa County grand jury indicted Wilson on one count of abandonment or concealment of a body. An arrest warrant was issued, and Wilson was taken into custody in Georgia where she stayed prior to her extradition this week..
