Buckeye Marathon prepping for 10th annual race

Get your New Year’s resolution off to a great start with the 10th Annual Buckeye Marathon “Race to the Runway” in January.

The event features a variety of courses for all activity levels and ages.

The race is Saturday, Jan. 6 at Buckeye Municipal Airport, 3000 S. Palo Verde Road.

The marathon route starts in the community of Sun City Festival before making its way around the White Tank Mountains and ending at the runway of the Buckeye Municipal Airport.

The marathon starts at 8 a.m., followed by the half marathon at 9, the 10K at 9:15, the 5K at 9:30, and the 1-mile fun run at 9:45 a.m. The awards ceremony starts at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Marathon participants can qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Prices range from $20 for the 1-mile to $95 for the marathon. Prices increase on Friday, Dec. 8. Race day pricing will be marathon $110, half marathon $80, 10K $65, 5K $50,1-mile fun run $30.

Join spectators and runners at the finish line for food, activities, and a variety of vendor offerings. Companies that would like to be a vendor can submit an application at buckeyeaz.gov/marathon.

Volunteers are needed, from the registration desk to the watering booths. Sign up to volunteer for at signupgenius.com.

All proceeds from the marathon benefit the Community Services Scholarship Fund, which provides financial opportunities for local children to participate in recreational activities throughout the city.
