Buckeye officials say an announcement Thursday that a potential water shortage in the community would end the issuance of new housing permits did not come as a surprise.
The issue of water in western Buckeye was raised in January with a release of a state report that found groundwater levels unsustainable for new building in various outlying areas of the county, including Buckeye.
But a news conference from Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs on Thursday with officials from the Arizona Department of Water Resources showed little changed from the first release five months ago.
