Just a few weeks after the Arizona Department of Water Resource released documents that warned of Buckeye’s future drought, the Buckeye City Council held an executive session to discuss paying $80 million on land for the use of groundwater rights on Monday.
The council took action on the agreement following the executive session for the purchase between the city of Buckeye and the Harquahala Valley Landowners LLC, authorizing the city manager to execute and deliver the agreement on behalf of the city.
“The approval of this purchase agreement was more than a year in the making,” said Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn. “This is a major step toward ensuring our current and future residents enjoy a great quality of life. The council and I appreciate every effort Water Resources staff has accomplished so far, knowing there are other opportunities on the horizon.” Orsborn said in a release.
