Brooks: Congress must support Open App Markets Act
It is high time we tackled the problem of how Apple and Google run their app stores.
Currently, they use monopolistic policies to promote their apps, while putting the app developers at a significant disadvantage while trying to earn a profit.

It is high time we tackled the problem of how Apple and Google run their app stores.
Currently, they use monopolistic policies to promote their apps, while putting the app developers at a significant disadvantage while trying to earn a profit.
On top of this, large companies are able to negotiate their fees for in-app purchases, but the small developers cannot. They are stuck paying Apple and Google 30%.
This is a blatantly unfair practice that is limiting the options consumers have.
Many have suggested this is a problem for the courts to decide, but as cases have made their way through the system, they have proven to not be a strong tool for creating a fairer marketplace. It is time for a legislative fix.
The Open App Markets Act that congress is considering would be a great start to opening the app stores to create a fair and equitable playing field for all and creating more consumer choices and lowering prices.
