TEEN VIOLENCE

Brass knuckles, unruly gathering ordinances made law in Chandler

Mayor: Time to focus on working with partners

In the wake of the beating death of Preston Lord and an increased focus on teen violence in the southeast Valley, the Chandler City Council has passed into law two ordinances intended to stem teen violence.

At its May 23 meeting, by a unanimous 7-0 vote, council approved two ordinances. One bans brass knuckles sale to, or possession by, minors, while the other ordinance is focused on consequences for anyone hosting large teen gatherings where laws are broken.

The council asked staff to put together a pair of ordinances. On May 23, they gave both ordinances final approval.
