SUN CITY WEST - Brad Sleight, 87, of Sun City West, passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2010. He was born in Jamestown, N.D., on Oct. 31, 1923. In 1942, after graduation from Bismarck High School, Bismarck, North Dakota, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945 after suffering an injury. Brad was a salesman, working for Bausch & Lomb Optical Company for most of his career, and then retired from sales from Dixon Safety Products. After moving to Sun City West in 1992, he became a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Brad was a true supporter of the DAV mission to advance the cause of disabled veterans and their families. He was very proud of his service to the DAV, which included four terms as Commander of the Sun City Star Chapter 24, and then as DAV Department Northern District Commander, Department of Arizona. Brad Sleight is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; sons, Randall (Beverly) and David (Kathy); and four grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Jamie and Elyse. A Memorial Service was planned for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City. The funeral party was escorted to the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix by members of the local Patriot Guard. Services started at 12:30 p.m. with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 94 Honor Squad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Star Chapter 24, P.O. Box 1911, Sun City, AZ 85372-1911, in memory of Brad Sleight.
