PHOENIX — Not only did the Liberty Lions and Perry Pumas make a great case March 7 for how non-top-4 seeds can play a compelling, entertaining boys basketball championship game, the winner ended up looking like it belonged there all along.
The Lions held off the Pumas, 69-65, in overtime at Veterans Coliseum to win their second 6A title in three seasons.
The No. 5-seed Lions, with seven seniors but some new faces among the starters, completed their winding road to the 6A title by knocking off a four-time state champion, Perry.
