Scottsdale Unified grapples with Native American student issues

Staff observes decrease in graduation rate, number of students and more

Recent data collected by Scottsdale Unified School District showed Native American students are still recovering from impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, it also shows hope for future improvement.

Although the school year has just started, Scottsdale Unified staff prepared a report that was presented at the Sept. 6 governing board meeting on updates relating to the district’s programs for Native American students.

Sheila Cepress, Native American education program coordinator, presented the fall bi-annual update, which included highlights of the previous year’s graduation data, summer school participation, plans for funding, enrollment comparisons and community partnership, according to a district report.
