Sun City resident Cheryl Hogan won a victory Feb. 16 when the Maricopa County Board of Adjustment granted her application for a temporary use permit.
Hogan sought approval to have her autistic 17-year-old son Warren live with her in the age-restricted community. The age overlay for Sun City prohibits people under 19 living in a community home for more than 90 days.
“This evening I’ve been trying to relax and absorb the fact that it is finally over, and Warren is safely in my home forever,” Hogan stated to friends in an email Feb. 16. “I hated the idea of having to pack up and leave again. I hated that he felt rejected. I hated that he might have to leave friends he has made and teachers he loves.”
