BNSF vote: Our voices were heard

Posted

Thank you to everyone who attended meetings, got informed and signed opposition (either letters or online) to the proposed BNSF rail facility.

The opposition in the Northwest Valley of Maricopa County showed up in a big way, and was influential in the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voting unanimously to deny another continuance (this would have been the fourth), and to deny the request for an Amendment to the Comprehensive Plan.

Thank you to PORA, all of the board and volunteers, for giving Sun City West and surrounding communities an avenue to learn about the factual effects and sign or write letters.

The resulting vote shows what can happen when residents and communities stand together!

Thank you to Supervisor Debbie Lesko for taking the time to study this issue, meet with constituents, visit the proposed site and come to an informed decision to protect our communities.

There are many, many people working on this issue — not any one person more influential than the rest. Every single letter and signature in opposition counts.

This is not over, but is a definite step in helping to protect our way of life. Thank you!
