Blues slide guitar legend bringing his trio for Phoenix show

Roy Rogers has played with just about everyone in blues music. He takes the stage in March for a night of straight-up Delta blues.

If it seems like Roy Rogers was just in Phoenix playing the blues with his slide guitar, he was.

Although his parents named him after the famous Western singer and movie star, the Northern California born and raised Rogers was always destined for the blues. And what a night he had in March 2025.

Not only was Rogers the opening act for his longtime friend and collaborator Bonnie Raitt at Arizona Financial Theatre, he came back on stage for the night’s closer. The two traded slide licks on a blistering version of their Grammy-nominated song “Gnawin’ on It,” which they wrote and recorded together for Raitt’s 2002 album “Silver Lining.”
