Blues music scene continues to stay hot in the Valley

Phoenix-area musicians in the spotlight on blues’ biggest night, now back in town for local gigs

Don’t look now, but the hot Valley of the Sun has become one of the coolest spots for blues music.

The Blues Foundation’s annual awards in May kicked the door wide open on what’s going on in the Valley. The Memphis-based organization dedicated to preserving blues heritage and celebrating blues recording and performing hosted its annual awards show, not to mention its signature International Blues Challenge, and Valley artists made their mark.

Leading the way was the Phoenix area’s own Eric Ramsey, who won the International Blues Challenge’s Solo competition and with it the event’s coveted Memphis Cigar Box Guitar Award.
