Blood donations in Sun City West make a major impact

Kiwanis welcomes Vitalant

Summertime is typically a low season when it comes to blood donations for local community blood banks.

To reach out to more people, blood donation service Vitalant, which hosts approximately 60,000 blood drives a year and in more than 20 places a day, recently visited with the Sun City West Kiwanis Club.

The mobile blood drives are a way to reach out to the community garner more donor, particularly when donations are low. According to Greg Wieking, Vitalant senior account manager, only 40% of the population is eligible to make a donation and less than 5% actually give.
