The Bureau of Land Management has completed an environmental assessment and will develop the Goldfield Recreation Area northeast of Apache Junction.
The area will be for non-motorized day use and includes about 1,091 acres of public lands northeast of Apache Junction along State Route 88 near Hackamore and Nodak roads, according to a release.
“The public provided important input in shaping the final plan,” BLM Phoenix District Manager Leon Thomas said. “We hope this new area will provide valuable recreation opportunities for visitors and nearby residents alike.”

The recreation area is intended “to enhance non-motorized recreational opportunities by establishing staging areas and designating trails,” the release stated.
“The recreation area will also provide for increased management of public lands, reduce resource damage and increase access to nearby trails.”
