Birthday cards sought for Mesa resident turning 105 in August

Vivian Bickford, who lives in Broadway Mesa Village in Mesa, will be turning 105 years young on Aug. 31, 2023.

Officials from Broadway Mesa Village encourage the local community to participate in her birthday celebration by sending her heartfelt birthday cards.

“These cards will undoubtedly bring joy to Vivian and showcase the incredible support and love of the Mesa community,” according to a release.

Birthday cards can be sent to Broadway Mesa Village, attention: Vivian’s Birthday, 7231 E Broadway Road, Mesa, AZ 85208.

A celebration open to the public will be held 2:30-3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in Broadway Mesa Village’s dining room, 7231 E. Broadway Road.

“Broadway Mesa Village is organizing a lively birthday party filled with joyous music and nostalgic vibes. Attendees will have the opportunity to dance to their favorite tunes from the past, creating an atmosphere of merriment and nostalgia,” the release states. “As part of the festivities, Broadway Mesa Village’s staff is working diligently to arrange a special surprise for Vivian. They have invited the local firemen to visit Vivian during the party and present her with 105 vibrant red roses, symbolizing her remarkable journey through the years.”

Her pastor will also be in attendance to bless the celebration and offer words of inspiration to her and the attendees. A few gospel singers will perform heartfelt songs dedicated to her long and vibrant life, the release states.

“We are excited to honor Vivian and celebrate this extraordinary milestone of reaching 105 years. Vivian has been an inspiration to all of us at Broadway Mesa Village, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host this joyous occasion,” Jessica L. Plante, executive director of Broadway Mesa Village, said in the release.

Vivian Bickford was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Opheim, Montana, and was married to her husband, Cliff, for 71 years. She worked in the office at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego. Vivian and Cliff also worked at their ski shop, Sierra Chalet Ski Shop, for more than 40 years in California. When Vivian Bickford’s son came to Arizona in 2018, he picked out Broadway Mesa Village and moved Vivian from Hawaii to the community just before her 100th birthday, according to previous stories about her birthdays.
