Phoenix approves fire department use of drones

4 more departments plan to follow

The Phoenix Fire Department will be the first city department to use drones with four more departments planning to follow closely behind.

The fire department will use the drones, or unmanned aircraft vehicles, for things such as locating hikers stranded on mountains or using infrared and thermal imaging to locate fire hotspots to better strategize an attack.

The other departments planning to follow the fire department are Parks, Water Services, Police and Communications.
