Bird flu detected in Maricopa County

Bird flu has arrived in Maricopa County this season.

On Monday, officials reported bird flu was detected in wastewater “as part of routine” wastewater surveillance, according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

Avian flu was detected after weekly tests came back positive. Phoenix, Surprise and Tempe — are the three cities where wastewater monitoring is done, the press release stated, but officials contend the risk to Valley residents remains low.
