Binsbacher steps down from Peoria council to run for mayor

Posted

Councilmember Bridget Binsbacher today announced her resignation from the Peoria City Council to run for the office of Peoria mayor.

She represents the Mesquite District of Peoria, located in the northern part of the city.

The deadline to file signatures for mayor, city council, and school board elections is April 4.

In her formal resignation letter to Mayor Cathy Carlat and the Peoria City Council, Binsbacher wrote, “I have served on this council for more than seven years and I am proud of all we have accomplished. It has been my great honor to work with every one of you. We have worked respectfully and cohesively to serve the citizens of Peoria with many successes to show for it.”

Because she is not in the final year of her term, she is requried by Arizona law to resign from the council.

After more than 17 years on council and eight years as mayor, Mayor Cathy Carlat will term out this year.

Binsbacher announced her bid for mayor in September of 2021.

She was originally elected to serve on Peoria City Council in 2015 and was re-elected in 2016 and 2020. During her time as an elected official, she has served two terms.

She lives in Peoria with her husband, Jon, a fire captain and paramedic for the Daisy Mountain Fire Department, and their four children.
