Bill to require accepting cash at Arizona businesses moves forward

Measure would affect primarily sales under $100

PHOENIX — They say cash is always the right size and color.

Now state lawmakers are moving to ensure merchants can’t turn it away.

Legislation approved by the House Commerce Committee Tuesday on a 9-1 vote would make it illegal for retailers to refuse to accept cash for goods or services if the entire bill is $100 or less. House Bill 2555 also would bar the imposition of any fee or penalty for using cash.
