The Goodyear City Council unanimously approved a minor amendment to the city’s general plan, advancing plans for Rio 1900, a large master-planned community proposed along the Gila River in south Goodyear.
The council adopted a resolution changing the land-use designation of about 31 acres south of the Gila River and west of Cotton Lane from open space to neighborhoods. The amendment is tied to the broader rezoning of roughly 1,940 acres from the long-approved King Ranch planned-area development to a new development known as Rio 1900.
City officials and the developer said the change updates a plan first approved about two decades ago and reflects current housing needs, infrastructure and development patterns.
