An investigation is underway after a 25-year-old man was hit by a vehicle this week while on his bicycle mid-block near 53rd Avenue and Baseline Road, Phoenix police said.
The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 1. When officers arrived, they found Ajuamungu Chubaka on the ground. He was taken to a hospital where he did not survive his injuries.
Detectives, who took over the investigation, said preliminary information suggests Chubaka was crossing Baseline Road on his bicycle mid-block when he was struck by the vehicle, which was headed east. The driver remained at the scene, police said, adding impairment is not believed to be a factor.
