Betty Irene Beck Robertson

Betty Irene Beck Robertson, 96, passed away March 21, 2017, in Newport Beach, CA. She was born October 1, 1920 to Charles and Beryl Beck in Fairfield, IA, and married George A. Robertson July 21, 1940 in Des Moines, IA. She was a member of Bellevue Heights Church, Sun City, AZ. Mrs. Robertson grew up in Burlington, IA. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1938, and Burlington Junior College in 1940. During the time she served as organist at the First Methodist Church in Burlington, from 1940 to 1958, she attended the Sherwood Music School in Chicago, IL and graduated in 1953. She began selling organs for Lyon & Healy in 1953, and then opened the Robertson Organ and Piano Company in Burlington from 1957-1967. She was well-known as organist for many community events and concerts in Burlington and the surrounding area. After moving to El Paso, TX in 1967 she became a real estate broker, and operated her own company there.In 1991, she moved to Sun City where she held positions as church organist at Bellevue Heights Church, Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church in Sun City West, and Willowbrook Methodist Church in Sun City. She retired from playing in 2005 after giving a final concert for her 85th birthday.Survivors: son James A. Robertson, Newport Beach, CA; four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren: David Sweeney, Seattle, WA (Mary Margaret, Beck, Peter), Christine Lutterloh, Puyallup, WA (Jason, Colton, Ryan, Austin, Carson), Michael Sweeney, Lawrenceville, GA (Grace, Emily, Nathan, Daniel), Timothy Sweeney, Allen, TX (Jake, Sam, Luke). She was preceded in death by her husband Al, a son Richard Allen, daughter Mary Elizabeth Sweeney, and brother Charles E. Beck.A memorial service will be held at Bellevue Heights Church April 20, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. Her ashes will be interred at the Bellevue Heights Church Columbarium.
