Behind the scenes: The making of beloved Family Circus statue at Scottsdale railroad park

Scottsdale landmark continues to hold great significance to community

In 2013, the Town of Paradise Valley launched an initiative to create a memorial to the late Bil Keane, a long-time resident and renowned cartoonist. 

Mr. Keane, the creator of the Family Circus comic strip, passed away in 2011 and two years later, his family was approached by the town about a way to commemorate his legacy.

Jeff Keane, Bil Keane’s youngest son who took over his role as the Family Circus cartoonist, explained that someone from the town hall had reached out to him about creating a statue.
