Fire crews rescued a maintenance worker and fought off a swarm of bees Saturday morning at Pebblebrook Golf Course in Sun City West.

The worker was stung by bees, but the number of stings and the extent of his injuries were not known as of mid-morning Aug. 19, according to the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority.

He was semiconscious when taken to a hospital in critical condition, authority officials said.

Firefighters used foam to subdue the bees while rescuing the employee.

AFMA officials said the golf course at 18836 N. 128th Ave. was shut down until a beekeeper could respond and deal with the remaining insects.

Authorities remind those who come into contact with a swarm of bees to cover their face and head and seek shelter.
