Beck: A new school is coming to north Peoria

Posted

Since taking office, one of Peoria's greatest needs has been for a new school in the northern part of our city. Over that time, local and city leaders have worked tirelessly to develop a long-term, responsible solution.

As a result, I am very excited to announce that Peoria is currently working through the pre-application site plan process with American Leadership Academy.

American Leadership Academy will service 2,400 students grades K-12, which will greatly aid in relieving the overcrowding of our local Peoria Unified schools. The campus will be located at Vistancia's Five North and will offer full educational curriculum, performing arts and athletics.

The city and the Vistancia developer have always envisioned Vistancia as a potential location for a school, since the development began over 20 years ago, and I am excited to see this process underway.

These are very important early steps to satisfy what our residents have long been asking for.

It is incredibly rewarding to know that generations of new students will have another educational opportunity in their hometown. The goal is to have the campus open in the fall of 2025, pending further council action.

Thank you for the trust that you have placed in me as your mayor. My commitment is that I will continue working each day to ensure that resident needs are heard. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions, 623-773-4614, or
